If walls could talk...

>> Tuesday, January 22, 2013

If I had - excuse me- balls, I'd do something like this in the house!!!  More concretely I'm referring to the PHENOMENAL WALL!  Maybe I'll just settle for some tastefully placed Botticelli angels floating on the ceiling in the extension.  ...Nope, just kidding... I got no courage...

Year of the Snake

We survived!  I distinctly remember not sleeping pretty much through all of my twenties and never having much discomfort because of it.  It took about a week to catch-up on sleep from merely going to bed at 3am on NYE.  I mean 3am!?  That's nothing, and still I feel I need a week of rejuvenating relaxation.  (Few days to go and WE ARE OFF!)

Yes, I know I always talk about "getting older" but to be honest I very much enjoy the benefits of not "having" to stay up till 6am partying, not "having" to have a crazy party planned that involves helicopters, jets and private yachts.  It's just like relief I STILL feel every Sunday night when I realize that I don't have last minute homework to complete since there is NO SCHOOL for me Monday!!!!  I'm DONE with school!  Same with staying up till 6am shenanigans- I'm no longer required to do this!  :) Pheeew

Oh yeah, and the point of all this was to show off my skirt! I love Pink Tartan, surprisingly out of Canada.

Very fun idea for a bridge across the Seine.   But it must be the mom in me because ALL I can think about when looking at the pictures is how dangerous it is.  The American in me is thinking, for how much should this thing be insured, should everyone crossing it be made to sign wavers...  The New Yorker in me is thinking what happens when some idiot decides to knife it.

I visited the Woonbeurs (Interior Design Expo) Amsterdam this weekend.  It was magic.  I saw absolutely incredible things for the home of really surprising quality and craftsmanship.  It was overwhelming   But of course here at the Sunny Orangery, too much of a good thing is just about right.  It was however alarming to see the number of companies that make and sell throw pillows!  I have counted 35 at least.  Throw pillows everywhere...  Pillows that look like little carpets, pillows with silk flowers on them, pillows with birds on them, with poetry on them and so on and so forth.

I did leave with a feeling that what it all comes down to is having excellent sales people because NO ONE will know or care about your product if you don't strategically stick it under their knows at the right time.

Mexico?
Sexy... This display was done as a luxurious tent in the desert with burning incense and candles.  I just wanted to recline there eating grapes for an hour or six.

I wanted to just take this guy home with me!  Isn't he so "matter of fact" cool, so colorful and ethnic, yet modern too.  When I came home and showed it to Vito, he said it was a good thing I din't take him home.
Of course that made me want it even more!
Lesson for the day: Kiss a sales person, they're saving your a$$!

Clever skirt!

>> Friday, September 21, 2012

Not the best photo job, but you get the point.  This is a very clever skirt not being too tight to constrain certain un-constrainables and having just the right amount of stretch in case the un-constrainables do indeed 'run away'.  And never mind the toe cleavage...oopsi.
In case you're wondering how I've achieved such a banging thighs and butt.... ehem... I have to comment that it takes a LOT of work!  It doesn't happen just over night!  I worked on it hard!  Spaghetti, pizza, cheese!  Lots and lots of cheese!  :) Speaking of which... I must go join Vito on the couch for hot Friday evening of TV watching and random grabbing (of cheese) from the fridge.   Tooddles!

I don't usually follow or care about celebrities in love, but this I like: Ashton Kutcher and Mila Kunis together!  I'm rather a sucker for long brewed romances... and love at first sight.  Ok, now how much sense does that make?  But it's ok, I forgive myself.

The other report for today is that Summer is officially over.  Fall weather is rolling in quickly.  AREN'T you EXCITED!!?!  Ok, I maybe sarcastic, but to be completely frank, I am excited.  After moving to the Netherlands I have discovered something very admirable about myself.  I love NASTY weather.  The nastier the better!  I really do!  It gives me energy, and makes me feel so accomplished!  When the weather is horrendous, just rolling out of bed is an accomplishment.  If you make it out the door that's like double points!  If you smile and exhibit signs of good mood that's like telling the rest of the world "ha-ha, I'm smiling and you can not bring your self to do it, I win!" And I LOVE to win.  As I keep telling my darling Vito: the competition is on, whether or not you choose to play.  Well I'm playin' and I'm a'WINNIN'!  Ok, enough of this psycho babble, I will now go and act age appropriate.

Speaking of age appropriate, today during lunch hour I ran over to one of my favorite boutiques near my work and just in a very matter of fact way, grabbed me a wonderful knee length pencil skirt.  The boutique is big on carrying Italian and French designers and I was so pleasantly surprised that this particular skirt is a Dutch label!  YXN  I'll model it for you tomorrow.  I know you can't wait, but please, now it's your turn to act age appropriate. ;) ciao ciao

Hello cowboys!

>> Monday, November 29, 2010

We have not done any musical interludes lately. Of course you can trust the Sunny Orangery to come up with something...well Sunny!

If you're not a fan of country music, then you're lying to yourself. How could you not be!? Cute guys with cowboy hats singing about how their hearts belong to you? Hello? I'll take one! And another point: have you seen ONE cowboy that didn't have a nice butt!?? Something about riding horses all day and other manual labor tasks makes cowboy butts oh so smackable!

Now I know what you're thinking, I'm a married woman, how inapropriate of me to drool in such a juvenile maner. It's ok I tell ya, my hubby is a footballer so he also has them nice thighs and butt.

Anyway, here are some singing Brazilian cowboys! Sing to me boys!

Power my Shower!

>> Thursday, November 20, 2008

hmm... I'm actually not sure how I feel about these..

A RAIN Shower?

I think they look really pretty, but I don't think they're very practical. I like showers with lots of power! I would not like some weak drizzle in my shower! Ew.

Maybe someone can think of the super storm shower!? That would sound more up my alley. Maybe even a WAVE shower!!!!! You know like those wave pools! Awesome, I gotta confess I was a lifeguard at one of those during my Highschool years and let me tell you, everytime they'd turn the waves on, I'd have to kinda force myself to swallow... scary stuff...

So no rain showers at our new place, a bath however is in order. You can do all kinds of beauty treatments such as bathing in milk like Cleopatra!!! (whole milk, non of that 2% nonsence), or rose petal bath! Yummy! Vito thinks he is too much man to be taking baths.... well I don't know, I BET he'd enjoy nice aromatic bath with lavender salts and aromatherapy candles....

Copenhagen weekend!

>> Sunday, May 4, 2008

Yes dears, Vito and I jetted ourselves away to a loooong weekend in Copenhagen! Ahhhh..... there is just something unexplainably dramatic and alluring about exiting the country you live in for a few days. I guess its like flyingover to Cali for a weekend from NYC. From the Netherlands however 2 hour travel in just about any direction by car or plane will lend you in another country! So we took advantage and hoped on over to Denmark. Added bonus, my friend bella Louisa lives in Copenhagen so we got to do some serious hanging around soaking up the sun.

And here you go and don't say I never tell you anything useful:
Copenhagen Island hotel: Lovely place to stay in Copenhagen, walking distance to the center overlooking the harbour:
Sexy modern rooms with big windows, very helpful and friendly concierge, SUPER brekfast bouffet in the morning anything from breakfast pastries, danish specialties, and fresh fruits, all taking place in a sleek restaurant overlooking the harbour.
Sticks'n'sushi: AWESOME sushi! It was intoxicatingly gooooood....
The one on Istedgade is in the neighborhood with a bunch of other good restaurants and bars (don't let the random hookers and junkies turn you off, it's an up and coming neighborhood) Best sushi I've had since NYC, and that's saying alot. (The nice concierge girl tiped us off about this one).
Also on the same street, a GREAT Thai restaurant Spicylicious:
Shoping.... oiiii just weave in and out paralel to the magior shopping street and you find lots and LOTS of cute boutiques.
LOVELY!

The Russian Mistique

>> Tuesday, March 25, 2008

I love this painting... a copy used to hang at our dacha in Ukraine.
On Saturday we attended the Russische sprookjes, volksverhalen en legenden exhibition at the Groninger Museum. It was a collection of a number of famous Russian artists that worked on illustrating old folklore, stories and legends. I was pleasantly surprized at the amount of paintings and drawing that were brought in. Ahhh was so good to see all the illustrations to the stories mom read to me everyday at badtime. Russian folklore is incredibly rich. I mean you have your beautiful girl, the good looking prince, mystical animals and forests that help our main charachters fight the bad guys, Kashei and Baba Yaga. Then of course there are countless humourous stories featuring Ivan, the idiot who always outsmarts everyone! High sea adventures, stories of glory, honor and bravery. Ahhhh....

Here are three princesess representing Gold, Silver and Iron. Just to illustrate how Iron has always been thought of as an extremely important element.

I was excited to show Vito a bit more of the culture from which I'm coming from... though I think the only thing I convinced him more is of my snobby, elitist attitude :P So what if I mean it when I say I'm a princess. To be perfectly honest (and don't go around repeating this) I would also be very happy with a simple countess title. (See, don't say I'm a snob.)

There were also a big exhibition of Chinese ancient bronzes. Very prettily done, with mysterious white gauze curtains... hanging mysteriously 'round. Of course Vito and I couldn't resist playing some hide and seek. Almost knocked one of the stands over...

And... here is me with my true treasure find! A scarf that I got in Argentina, I met the designer who is awesome, her entire line is based on Patagonia inspiration.

Happy feet!

>> Saturday, March 22, 2008

I was in DIRE need of pampering!!! I mean, it took 3 WEEKS to get an appointment at this beauty salon... I mean hello, do they seriously not realize WHO I AM!?? Ugh! After Argentina I've been just waiting to get my pedi done... I literally had to sleep with my (extra fluffy white) spa socks on so that the world does not see my NAKED (as in no COLOR) toes!!! ...Not that the "WORLD" sleeps with me, but you know what I mean, I myself did not want to even look at them, see I try to block out all the depressing images.

Also, I couldn't let Vito see my toes, I mean, I have him convinced that my toes are naturally pearly pink, I can't let him know the real truth! ("Real" truth, btw is a genius frase made up by my little brother. Whenever (always) he doubted the authenticity of our explanations for why a certain thing must be done, like not eating in front of TV or brushing teeth everyday- he would always ask: "Are you telling me the REAL truth?" goodness, nothing can get by kids these days.

So yes, must not let Vito know "REAL truth".... ;) ....oh right, he reads this blog...hi honey!...

ps: so now I got "Easter toes"! I love Chanel...
psps: I wanted to take pictures at the salon, but forgot in all the commotion. I do have to say that since we got Chanel pedicures we did not want to risk ruining them so we wore our little spa flip-flops to walk down the street to our dinner... IN THE FREEZING RAIN. Ahh... the stuff we do for beauty!

Yeah yeah, I know, I have completely abandoned the blog. Really, I tried to log in and I realized I didn't even remember the password!

No excuses, just lots of fun stuff going on and I'm a bit overwhelmed what to write about. As my dad says. "Just write one word, don't wait too long because then you won't want to write anything at all". Maybe he is on to something! Maybe I'll just write ONE word a day :)

Anyway, I've been all huff-huff puff-puff last few days and you ladies will understand but my dear Vito had to put up with me without a clue...

Vito: What's the matter with you?

Me: (huff puff) ...nothing...

Vito: no really, tell me

Me: ...nothing!

Vito: tell me!

Me: ...ok... it's just ... i'm SO BORED with my wardrobe! I wear the same stuff all the time, there is nothing exciting and fabulous in shops... and even if there were... it's .... blaaabla blaaa for 5 minutes at least..... I'm just so meeeeaaaad... I need new clotheeeeeesssss!

Vito: .........R U serious....??????????????

Me: ...pouty lip- yes!

Anyway, darlin' Vito sent me a few links to good european shopping websites and tonight I made my very first internet order for clothes. I definitely have to try stuff on, but I'm willing to give it a try.

Well this is one I gave a go this time: www.dress-for-less.com I just randomly decided if I would be considered small, medium or large depending on the brand and material... hope it worked.

btw: The picture on top is of Hoorn. Yet another cute town in the Netherlands. Yawn Yawn :)

What your ringtone says about you.

>> Friday, November 23, 2007

So there we were having a serious business meeting with a bunch of serious people. Then we hear a cellphone ring and this extremely Mexican voice said:

Papiiiiiiiiiiiiii coge el telefonooooooooooo! Coge lo porfavooooooooor...! Pero, coge te loooooooo!

It was the funniest thing E-V-E-R!

Well almost as funny as when I asked him to beam me the ringtone via bluetooth, he said: ''Um... I see 'BarbaRossa' is that you?" ...Right... I was using Vito's phone...
So I had to explain that BarbaRossa is indeed another pet name for my big bad Vito...

Here:

I couldn't find this exact one but here is a similar, funny one too: http://www.mundogsm.com/sonidos-77595.html

Oh and...

Going on a jet plane...

>> Tuesday, September 4, 2007

Well, I'm jetting of to Bean Town for work. (I love saying that! Although I believe "jetting"is really a term reserved for PRIVATE jet, and that's definitely not what I'll be flying, but still fun to say... Makes me want to have a glass of champagne already.) I'm also super excited that I'll get to visit my parents and brother!

Vito and I get to have another one of our dramatic goodbyes at the airport, I was not planning on that for a while, and what's more, Bean Town was actually the last place we went to when I still lived in NY and he here.

For a week... Oh and I'm bringing an extra suitcase for shopping. Yeah, who knew Target would all of the sudden become exotic!? Plus the whole Euro/Dollar situation. I remember exactly the MOMENT that shopping in Europe has become depressing. Four years ago (wow, has it been that long already?) when Kaiya and I were running around Rome buying everything in sight... then realizing the exchange rate was actually NOT in our favor. Yep it was depressing. Well, just think of how uplifting shopping in Target is going to be! ;)

ciaociao y'all be good now!

As we frolic here in green fields among the cows.....

Meanwhile... in NYC...

...there ain't no cows on the green fields of Bryant Park... (Photos thanks to my friend on location.)

Hmmm... personally I think that's how I like NYC... from a distance! NYC and I were having irreconcilable differences. NYC is HUGE, in your face, has ADD and always competes for attention. That did not sit well with me. I LIKE to be the center of attention! NYC and I just can't be in the same town together... there is no room for the both of us... but I'm glad to see the pictures and see NYC in its element.

And now... I present you with a snapshot of my commute to and from work back in NY:

The Staten Island Ferry! This is actually my favorite view of NYC... seeing it get smaller and disappear into the horizon...

I think NYC is like a big rich chocolate cake, it's more delicious when you admire it from a distance, rather then eating it and getting a stomach ache and never wanting to see another chocolate cake ever again in your life. But then again, I'm not really into deserts anyway.

I'm getting ready for starting work. How? By bringing out my outfits and putting my summer play clothes away... I also tried on my favorite Miss Sixty jeans and they actually fit!!! Wow.

And now here is a random yet exclusive inside look into Vito's parents' garden...

Ahh... to sit among the rainbow blossoms bathing in mid day sunlight... to sip the honey sweet ice tea... aaahhh... soon soon summer will be carried away...
note to self: buy that villa in the Caribbean
