How long is maternity leave over there? I bet the answer will make me cry.

4 months, (not as long as other countries) plus you get 'parental leave' which is something like 180 (unpaid) days that you can take in the first 5 years. so basically what people do is work 4 days in a week until the days run out. Vito will also work 4 days a week... of course really rich people dont have to work at all... ever... so it's all relative

Wow. 4 Months + 180 parental days for both. That's great. Even if the 180 is unpaid, that's a nice work/life balance feature.

And it's all state run, right? Because, that could never happen in the US with everything (insurance, etc) being company based.

My company gives paid maternity leave based on how long you've been with the company:

+ 4 weeks (been here less than 3 years)
+ 6 weeks (3 to 8 years with company)
+ 12 weeks (9+ years with company) weeks

But, I don't think anyone would ever get 12 weeks because the timing (9+ years of employment) would mean the person started right after college (to still be of child-bearing age) and most people in NYC don't stay at their first job that long.

We also get 12 weeks of UNPAID (but job is guaranteed) leave under the Family and Medical Act.

Anyway, point is paid maternity leave is slim in NYC.
